SUMMARY:Drop-in Spousal Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This monthly\, drop-in support group provides an opportunity for spouses of individuals diagnosed with OR suspected of having cognitive impairment come together and support each other through the caregiving experience. \nThe goals of this group are to share personal feelings\, increase healthy coping strategies\, decrease isolation\, and improve awareness of resources and supports in the community. DESCRIPTION:PRE-REQUISITE: You must be a FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE PROVIDER and have attended either: \n\nDementia Foundations\nDementia 101 self paced module on AlzEducate\nDementia Overview – live session delivered via Zoom or AlzEducate (check our events calendar for dates)\nExperience working with people with dementia\n\n  \nDescription\nThis training program is aimed at enhancing the knowledge of frontline staff in caring for people with dementia using a palliative care approach. This program focuses on promoting quality of life and comfort for individuals living with dementias and their families\, with particular emphasis on late stage and end of life. Participants will explore their own beliefs around dying and how it impacts care as well as examine what a palliative care approach means through a dementia lens. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nReflect on different values & beliefs on dying and how it impacts care\nDefine palliative care\nDescribe dementia as a terminal condition and its symptoms in late/end of life stages\nReview Dementia-Specific Palliative Care Goals/Values that provide comfort and support quality of life in advanced and end-of-life dementia\nRelate concepts of culture\, spirituality and communication and their significance in delivering person-centered care\nAddressing unattended grief as a healthcare provider and its impact on delivering person-centered care\n\n  \nDate and Time: \nTuesday\, June 2nd from 10:00am to 1:00pm \n\nPlease Read Before Registering\nAt the Alzheimer Society of Toronto\, we are committed to providing accessible education opportunities to health care professionals.
