SUMMARY:Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA®) Training
DESCRIPTION:Training for personal support workers or front-line health-care providers. \nGPA® Basics is a 4 module evidence-based education session designed for team members who care for older adults who display responsive behaviours associated with dementia. The GPA® curriculum will educate staff on how to use a person-centred\, compassionate and gentle persuasive approach and to respond respectfully\, with confidence and skill to responsive behaviour associated with dementia. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExplain the relationship between the disease process and a person’s behaviour response\nApply emotional\, environmental\, and interpersonal communication strategies to prevent and diffuse responsive behaviours\nDemonstrate suitable and respectful techniques to use in situations of risk\n\n  \nDate and Time: \nTuesday\, June 16th  from 9:00am to 5:00pm\n(You must attend the full day to complete the training) \nCost: $92 (this cost includes the five dollar material shipping fee)\n*If you live outside of Ontario\, please e-mail education@alz.to indicating your mailing address\, as additional shipping fees will apply. \n  \nProgram is presented using Zoom. \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:This workshop will review the importance of Advance Care Planning\, and the steps involved in the process\, in the case where one becomes mentally incapable of making their health care decisions. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstanding Advance Care Planning and why it is important\nLearning about the steps involved in Advance Care Planning\nUnderstanding what a Substitute Decision Maker is\, and how to appoint a Power of Attorney for Personal Health\, and a Power of Attorney for Property\nRecognizing what capacity and incapacity mean in Ontario\n\n  \nPlease note this workshop is only for informal care partners (friends\, family\, etc) of a person living with dementia. This workshop is NOT for healthcare professionals.  \n  \nWorkshop will be presented online using Zoom.\nRegistration is required to receive the Zoom link to participate.

Believe it! In Joking Aside: Improv …with Nigel\, we will take that very skill you already have and use it to creatively learn\, play – and most importantly – laugh. A bunch! Best part is – you don’t need to be funny. You just need to be in the moment. Yes\, and… this 4-part series workshop will include entry level games and exercises that expand the world of improv and open other ways for you to communicate with your family\, friends and peers. No Experience necessary. Positivity and an open mind\, a must.
