SUMMARY:Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA®) Training
DESCRIPTION:Training for personal support workers or front-line health-care providers. \nGPA® Basics is a 4 module evidence-based education session designed for team members who care for older adults who display responsive behaviours associated with dementia. The GPA® curriculum will educate staff on how to use a person-centred\, compassionate and gentle persuasive approach and to respond respectfully\, with confidence and skill to responsive behaviour associated with dementia. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExplain the relationship between the disease process and a person’s behaviour response\nApply emotional\, environmental\, and interpersonal communication strategies to prevent and diffuse responsive behaviours\nDemonstrate suitable and respectful techniques to use in situations of risk\n\n  \nDate and Time: \nMonday\, July 13th from 9:00am to 5:00pm\n(You must attend the full day to complete the training) \nCost: $87 \n  \nThis is an In-Person workshop at our Alzheimer Society of Toronto head office.\nAddress: 20 Eglinton Ave West\, 16th Floor\, Toronto   M4R 1K8\n(Northwest corner of Yonge and Eglinton\, across the street from Yonge and Eglinton subway station. DESCRIPTION:This ongoing monthly support group provides an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with Lewy Body and Parkinson’s Dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nInteract with other group members caring for those with Lewy Body or Parkinson’s Dementia\nBecome familiar with these specific types of dementias\nReceive therapeutic support as well as educational information to enhance your caregiving experience\nShare your experiences and concerns and receive support from the group facilitators and other group members in a safe space\n\n  \nEvery 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30pm to 7:00pm online using Zoom\n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) \n  \n*Disclaimer: Registration for this group closes on the Wednesday prior to the session.
