SUMMARY:Dementia and Developmental Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Enhance your knowledge of Developmental Disabilities (DD) and Dementia. Risk for dementia appears to be 5 times higher for people with DD compared to the general population. \nThis course will explore the unique challenges faced by the person and their families and opportunities to support someone who is living with developmental disabilities and dementia. Recognize different ways in which communication occurs and explain how communication changes in a person with dementia.  Learn about strategies that can support communication the person and recognize the benefits of validating a person’s feelings when trying to communicate. \n  \nWorkshop will be presented using Zoom.  \nRegistration is required. SUMMARY:Knowledge 2 Action (K2A): Supporting Responsive Behaviours in Dementia Care
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is for health care providers and staff who provide direct care to people with behaviour changes due to dementia or other cognitive impairment. This workshop offers the participants an opportunity to build on and practice skills gained from dementia training programs (such as U-First!). SUMMARY:U-First!® (for Health Care Professionals)
DESCRIPTION:U-First!® for Health Care Professionals supports health care and other service providers who work with people living with dementia or other cognitive impairments. U-First!® builds on existing curriculum and encourages learners to make lifelong learning a goal. The vision is to provide every member of the care team with consistent education on key skills and best care practices. It sets the stage for common knowledge\, language for communicating with all members of the care team (including informal care partners)\, and a comprehensive approach to care. \nThis program is for personal support workers and other front-line health care workers (including dietary\, rehabilitation and social service staff\, activationists\, nurses\, and health care students). \nWe highly recommend that you take Dementia Foundations prior to registering to this course. \n\n  \nDate and Time: \nTuesday\, April 22nd from 9:00am to 4:00pm \n  \nCost: $85\n(this cost includes the five dollar material shipping fee) \nPlease enter your complete address (including apartment number if applicable) when you register. Course materials will be mailed to you ahead of time. A ten dollar fee will be applied if materials have to be reshipped due to an incomplete address. \n  \nProgram is presented using Zoom.\nRegistration is required.\nRegistration deadline is Thursday\, April 10th\, 2025
