Kathleen Downie has facilitated many engaging art programs for the Alzheimer's Society of Toronto clients over the years and is now an art therapy student attending the Vancouver Art therapy Institute (VATI) distance program.

Textile Explorations is a relaxed in-person textile art creation series, designed for individuals living with dementia and their partners in care. Lux Gow-Habrich will lead this program where we will play with exciting textures and colours and explore techniques like weaving, felting, textile collage, embroidery, surface design and bask in the meditative qualities of fibre and fabric arts.

Join us for another insightful Explore Art with Jano, a virtual art appreciation program. This session we will focus on nature, specifically trees. Sturdy and protective, trees provide us with shelter, oxygen and they have also served as inspiration for the visual and literary arts.

This is a one-hour guided tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) with a hands-on art making program for people living with dementia and their caregivers. The tour is facilitated by an experienced AGO Docent and is assisted by Alzheimer Society of Toronto Staff and Volunteers.

Step into Stories of a Lifetime, a joyful and inclusive workshop where every voice matters. Designed to embrace mild cognitive impairment and early-stage dementia participants and their care partners. This series—led by storyteller Sage Tyrtle—celebrates the magic of shared memories and the connections they bring. No experience needed! 

We will focus on three fundamental hand building skills: making a pinch pot, a coil pot and finally a slab pot. The skills required are relatively simple and accessible to anyone with the right encouragement and support.
