DESCRIPTION:This monthly caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for caregivers/partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOpportunity to share feelings and insights with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences\nDiscuss and share different strategies regarding self-care and care for the person they are supporting (including stress\, communication and responding to behaviours)\nLearn about how others are adjusting to their own changing relationship\nReceive information about the services available at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto\n\nEvery 2nd Thursday of the month from 1:30pm to 3:30pm online using Zoom \n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) If you’re having trouble registering\, please let us know by emailing: intake@alz.to \n*Disclaimer: Registration is required and closes at midnight (12am) the Sunday prior to the session. SUMMARY:Mid-Town Social
DESCRIPTION:Mid-Town Social focuses on social wellness for people with Dementia and their care partners. This month we will collaborate with Jano Cortijo\, an established arts educator. We will enjoy a meditative drawing and collaging program together inspired by the work of Ruth Asawa\, a prolific artist who made drawing a regular ritual often depicting her personal\, immediate surroundings. Using line\, shape and colour in ingenious and unexpected ways\, Asawa crafted an extensive body of work that comfortably and masterfully exists between abstraction and figuration. \nWe will look at and discuss some of her drawings and mixed media pieces and then create our own compositions. \nJano Cortijo is a gay\, immigrant\, bilingual arts educator whose work finds him engaging audiences of various ages\, abilities\, and backgrounds in museums\, classrooms\, community centers\, or computer screens. DESCRIPTION:The Community Connections Café is a welcoming space where people with memory loss or Dementia\, and their care partners\, can come to connect with others and support their brain health while socializing. This is an opportunity to enjoy simple refreshments and make new friends in a Dementia Friendly Community Space. \nThe Community Connections Cafe focuses on social wellness for people with memory loss or Dementia\, and their care partners. The program is informal with the intended atmosphere of a local coffee shop where participants can chat over a beverage\, do something creative\, or play a game. \nEvery 2nd Wednesday of the month from 12:30pm to 2:30pm In-person at our AST Mid Scarborough Hub. \nLocation: 2658 Eglinton Avenue East\, Scarborough\, ON\, M1K2S3 \nRegistration is required for this program and closes at midnight (12am) the day prior to the event. DESCRIPTION:Our peer-led support groups provide care partners with the opportunity to discuss both practical and emotional needs related to caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementias. These groups are facilitated by volunteers who have lived experience as care partners and have received training on group facilitation.
