SUMMARY:Spousal CARERS Program
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week in-person program is for spousal care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. Alzheimer Society of Durham Region made an excellent video that explains the program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaB0aHqBC98 \nGoals of the Program: \n\nEnhance practical skills for caregivers\nImprove caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills\nEnhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges\nImprove caregivers’ social interaction and social support\n\nSession dates:\nThursdays from 10:00am–12:00pm\, starting June 11th and ending July 30th. \n\nWeek 1 – June 11\, 2026\nWeek 2 – June 18\, 2026\nWeek 3 – June 25\, 2026\nWeek 4 – July 2\, 2026\nWeek 5 – July 9\, 2026\nWeek 6 – July 16\, 2026\nWeek 7 – July 23\, 2026\nWeek 8 – July 30\, 2026\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above. DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, November 3rd to December 8th (6-week program) from 10:30-11:30 at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital located at 150 Kilgour Road\, Toronto\, ON Canada M4G 1R8. \nAquafit is not swimming\, it is a way to exercise in the water that can accommodate all ages\, fitness levels\, health considerations and abilities. It welcomes participants to choose their own intensity level\, speed and range of motion. The principles of water protect joints\, and build strength\, flexibility\, balance\, and endurance.
