DESCRIPTION:This 4-week online caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience\, with a structured focus on the concept of “Ambiguous Loss”. This group is inspired by Pauline Boss’ book “Loving Someone With Dementia“. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop an understanding of the concept of “Ambiguous Loss” and ambiguous loss in the context of dementia\, and how this unique type of loss differs from other losses\nDevelop coping strategies to implement in their own lives\nObtain a better understanding of their own experiences of grief related to caring for their family member\nEngage in self reflection and share insights related to their caregiving experience\nLearn from others on adjusting to the losses and their own changing relationship to self and others\n\n  \nThis group will run for four consecutive weeks online using Zoom. Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the start date. \nSession dates:\nMondays from 5pm–7pm\, starting November 16th ending December 7th \n\nWeek 1 – November 16th\nWeek 2 – November 23rd\nWeek 3 – November 30th\nWeek 4 – December 7th\n\n* Please note\, participants are expected to commit to all 4 sessions listed above. DESCRIPTION:This 8-week online program is for adult child care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia (this typically means people caring for a parent\, but can include anyone who is the primary unpaid caregiver of a person with dementia). \nDeveloped by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care support group that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. SUMMARY:Bereavement Support Group (In Collaboration with Hazel Burns Hospice)
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week online support group meets to provide participants with an opportunity to support each other through the grief and bereavement process. Both practical and emotional needs will be explored to help participants cope with a loss. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOpportunity to share insights and experiences with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences\, as well as grief and bereavement\nLearn from others on adjusting to the loss and their own changing relationship to self and others.\nDiscuss and share different strategies regarding selfcare including discussion on stages of grief (various frameworks)\, finding meaning and exploring feelings related to loss and loneliness.\nReceive updated information on where to seek additional supports if desired\n\n  \nSession dates:\nTuesdays from 11:00am – 1:00pm\, starting February 2nd to March 23rd\nWeek 1 – February 2nd\nWeek 2 – February 9th\nWeek 3 – February 16th\nWeek 4 – February 23rd\nWeek 5 – March  2nd\nWeek 6 – March 9th\nWeek 7 – March 16th\nWeek 8 – March 23rd \nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above.
