DESCRIPTION:Our peer-led support groups provide care partners with the opportunity to discuss both practical and emotional needs related to caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementias. These groups are facilitated by volunteers who have lived experience as care partners and have received training on group facilitation. DESCRIPTION:This ongoing monthly support group provides an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOpportunity to share insights with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences\nDiscuss and share different strategies regarding self-care and care for their family members (including stress\, communication and responding to behaviours)\nLearn about how others are adjusting to their own changing relationship\nReceive updated information about dementia and the services available at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto\n\nEvery last Monday of the month from 10:00am to 12:00pm online using Zoom\n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) \n*Disclaimer: Registration is required and closes at midnight (12am) the Wednesday prior to the session. SUMMARY:Living with Ambiguous Loss Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This 4-week online caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience\, with a structured focus on the concept of “Ambiguous Loss”. This group is inspired by Pauline Boss’ book “Loving Someone With Dementia“. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop an understanding of the concept of “Ambiguous Loss” and ambiguous loss in the context of dementia\, and how this unique type of loss differs from other losses\nDevelop coping strategies to implement in their own lives\nObtain a better understanding of their own experiences of grief related to caring for their family member\nEngage in self reflection and share insights related to their caregiving experience\nLearn from others on adjusting to the losses and their own changing relationship to self and others\n\nThis group will run for four consecutive weeks online using Zoom. Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the start date. \nSession dates:\nThursdays from 10am–12pm\, starting January 30th ending February 20th. \n\nWeek 1 – January 30th\nWeek 2 – February 6th\nWeek 3 – February 13th\nWeek 4 – February 20th\n\n* Please note\, participants are expected to commit to all 4 sessions listed above. DESCRIPTION:Are you part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and caring for a person affected by dementia and/or Alzheimer’s Disease? \nThe Alzheimer Society of Toronto runs a monthly support group that provides an opportunity for family caregivers who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to share and learn with other caregivers in a supportive and inclusive environment. \nParticipants decide on the focus and direction of the group\, and both practical and emotional needs are explored. \nThe support group meets virtually on the last Thursday of every month from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm using Zoom \nIf you are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and you are caring for a person affected by dementia and/or Alzheimer’s Disease\, please fill out the following form to be added to the waitlist to join the ongoing support group: \n  \n\n  \nOnce there is room in the group\, the facilitator(s) will contact you for a brief telephone screening. Please note that being added to the waitlist signifies your intentions and general capacity to attend each monthly meeting).
