DESCRIPTION:This monthly\, drop-in support group provides an opportunity for spouses of individuals diagnosed with OR suspected of having cognitive impairment come together and support each other through the caregiving experience. \nThe goals of this group are to share personal feelings\, increase healthy coping strategies\, decrease isolation\, and improve awareness of resources and supports in the community. DESCRIPTION:This 8-week in-person program is for spousal care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. \nGoals of the Program: \n\nEnhance practical skills for caregivers\nImprove caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills\nEnhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges\nImprove caregivers’ social interaction and social support\n\n  \nSession dates:\nTuesdays from 10:30am–12:30pm\, starting August 12th\, ending September 29th (*the last session is a Monday due to our office closure) \n\nWeek 1 – August 12th\nWeek 2 – August 19th\nWeek 3 – August 26th\nWeek 4 – September 2nd\nWeek 5 – September 9th\nWeek 6 – September 16th\nWeek 7 – September 23rd\nWeek 8 – Monday\, September 29th\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above. SUMMARY:Spousal CARERS Program
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week in-person program is for spousal care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. \nGoals of the Program: \n\nEnhance practical skills for caregivers\nImprove caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills\nEnhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges\nImprove caregivers’ social interaction and social support\n\n  \nSession dates:\nTuesdays from 10:30am–12:30pm\, starting August 12th\, ending September 29th (*the last session is a Monday due to our office closure) \n\nWeek 1 – August 12th\nWeek 2 – August 19th\nWeek 3 – August 26th\nWeek 4 – September 2nd\nWeek 5 – September 9th\nWeek 6 – September 16th\nWeek 7 – September 23rd\nWeek 8 – Monday\, September 29th\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above. Kindly register only if these dates work for you.\nIf this schedule does not work for you at this time\, you are encouraged to check out our ongoing support groups that are available for registration month-to-month. DESCRIPTION:This monthly support group will provide an opportunity for spousal caregivers of individuals diagnosed with OR suspected of having cognitive impairment to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOpportunity to share insights with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences\nDiscuss and share different strategies regarding self-care and care for the person they are supporting (including stress\, communication and responding to behavioural and cognitive changes)\nLearn about how others are adjusting to and coping with their caregiving journey\nReceive updated information about dementia and the services available at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto\n\n  \nEvery last Monday of the month from 1:30pm to 3:00pm online using Zoom\n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) \n  \n*Disclaimer: Registration for this group closes on the Wednesday prior to the session.
