DESCRIPTION:This monthly\, drop-in support group provides an opportunity for spouses of individuals diagnosed with OR suspected of having cognitive impairment come together and support each other through the caregiving experience. \nThe goals of this group are to share personal feelings\, increase healthy coping strategies\, decrease isolation\, and improve awareness of resources and supports in the community. SUMMARY:Adult Child CARERS Program
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week online program is for adult child care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. \nGoals of the Program: \n\nEnhance practical skills for caregivers\nImprove caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills\nEnhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges\nImprove caregivers’ social interaction and social support\n\n  \nSession dates:\nThursdays from 10:30am–12:30pm\, starting January 15th\, ending March 5th. \n\nWeek 1 – January 15th\nWeek 2 – January 22nd\nWeek 3 – January 29th\nWeek 4 – February 5th\nWeek 5 – February 12th\nWeek 6 – February 19th\nWeek 7 – February 26th\nWeek 8 – March 5th\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above. DESCRIPTION:The TEACH (Training\, Education\, and Assistance for Caregiving at Home) Program is a Reitman Centre caregiver program which consists of 4 weekly group sessions that are each 90 minutes long. \nLearning objectives: \n\nFocus on common caregiving themes including; self-care\, healthcare system navigation\, relationship changes\, and future planning\nCoaches care partners in practical communication and coping skills\nProvides opportunity to share and learn from other care partners\n\n  \nSession dates:\nFridays from 1:00pm–2:30pm\, January 16th to February 6th \n\nWeek 1 – January 16th\nWeek 2 – January 23rd\nWeek 3 – January 30th\nWeek 4 – February 6th\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 4 sessions listed above. DESCRIPTION:Too often\, clients shared that they wish they had learned what they would learn later in their journey but much earlier\, expressing how key insight on the dementia experience would have improved their overall dementia journey.\nThis brand-new support group was designed by AST social workers in collaboration with caregivers\, people experiencing cognitive changes\, and various dementia specialists to offer key insight at the start of the dementia journey for the care partner.\nOur experience tells us that the earlier you know what you know\, the better your overall caregiving journey. \nEach session will focus on a key theme. DESCRIPTION:This 4-week online caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience\, with a structured focus on the concept of “Ambiguous Loss”.
