No artistic experience is necessary – just curiosity\, creativity\, and a willingness to explore. Kathleen is currently completing her Art Therapy training through the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute (VATI) Distance Program. \nAs part of her training\, Kathleen will facilitate group art therapy sessions for individuals living with mild to moderate dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI)\, along with their care partners. This month we are collaborating with LUMP Studios! \nMid-Town Social: Pottery Making  \nJoin us for a relaxing and creative pottery making session. In this hands-on session\, you’ll explore the basics of working with air dry clay while creating your own unique piece in a welcoming and supportive environment. The workshop encourages creativity\, self-expression\, and social connection through the calming\, tactile experience of hand-building with clay. \nAbout LUMP Studio \nLUMP Studio is a collaborative ceramic practice by Yvette Yanne and Liz Lau. Between us\, we have over 20 years of experience working with clay in the UK\, Hong Kong\, and Canada. \nWe love bringing people together through hands-on clay experiences that are welcoming\, creative\, and accessible to all. These sessions use the creative process to support self-expression\, emotional wellbeing\, identity\, and connection. Through art-making and guided reflection\, participants are invited to explore memories\, strengths\, relationships\, emotions\, and meaningful life experiences in a way that is accessible and adaptable to changing cognitive abilities. Sessions are individualized and may incorporate visual art\, sensory experiences\, mindfulness\, reminiscence\, and nature-based approaches. No artistic experience is necessary. \nTamiko Potts is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and student art psychotherapist studying at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy who believes creativity can help people connect\, reflect\, and find joy in everyday moments. Drawing from their background in visual arts\, storytelling and community engagement\, they create inclusive and welcoming spaces. The program is flexible and will be catered to the interests and needs of the group participants. DESCRIPTION:Join our monthly social at our Mid-Scarborough Hub\, 2658 Eglinton Ave E. Scarborough on the 4th Thursday of the month. \nThis program is an opportunity to meet like-minded people\, to engage in meaningful conversations\, tap into our creativity and get active. This two-hour social is a great way to find your community and partake in gentle movement to great playlists. East End Friends is intended for people living with dementia and their care partners\, and it is offered through a culturally inclusive\, accessible and dementia-friendly lens.
