SUMMARY:EASE Session 1: Supporting the Symptoms of Dementia
DESCRIPTION:The E.A.S.E program is a 4-session program developed for PSWs currently working with persons living with dementia.\nThe program will engage PSWs in dementia education\, giving practical tools to improve the level of care and support provided to persons living with dementia and the PSW – a real-life approach. PSW’s will leave each session with tools/ideas to use right away on the job. \nNOTE: Each session is a stand-alone. DESCRIPTION:U-First!® for Health Care Professionals supports health care and other service providers who work with people living with dementia or other cognitive impairments. U-First!® builds on existing curriculum and encourages learners to make lifelong learning a goal. The vision is to provide every member of the care team with consistent education on key skills and best care practices. SUMMARY:Miniature Diorama Art Series with Roxanne
DESCRIPTION:4-Week Series on Wednesdays\, April 8th – April 29th from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M at AST located at 20 Eglinton Ave West\, 16th floor.  \nJoin our creative in-person Miniature Diorama workshop series\, designed for individuals living with mild to moderate dementia and their caregivers. Roxanne Brathwaite will lead this program where we will return to a childhood pastime and re-create an interior that captures a moment in time shrunk to 1:6 scale (think Barbie’s size). \nRoxanne Brathwaite is a Toronto-based maker who creates richly detailed miniature environments inspired by texture\, materiality\, and design history. Her miniature dioramas centred around warmth\, safety\, and emotional connection\, her work invites viewers into intimate spaces while also addressing social issues such as domestic abuse\, dementia\, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Roxanne is a Season 1 contestant on CBC Gem/Netflix Canada’s Best in Miniature\, has led workshops at the Gardiner Museum and Jamie Esplanade—which was nominated for a Toronto Heritage Award. DESCRIPTION:This gentle low impact dance fitness class with Jenn uses diverse music and simple dance movements to create a dynamic and energizing aerobic workout. With easy to follow moves that can be done seated or standing\, this upbeat class is set to positive\, playful and uplifting music. You will be motivated by the joyful\, welcoming and supportive environment that encourages you to let go and have fun! No experience required. \nJenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care. \nThis program will be held on Zoom. DESCRIPTION:This six-session\, weekly support group is an opportunity for people living with dementia\, or Mild Cognitive Impairment\, and their care partners to join a support group together. Here pairs can come together to share and find support from others navigating similar challenges or concerns. These semi-structured sessions offer a space to explore topics such as coping with changes\, communication\, evolving relationships and roles\, maintaining independence\, and planning. \nThis short-term support group aims to provide a space where participants can share experiences from their perspective as a person living with dementia or as a care partner. The study measures how well an online brain health assessment\, which includes different memory and attention tasks\, works on mobile devices to measure brain health. \n  \nAbout the presenters: \nDr. Nicole Anderson is the Associate Scientific Director of the Kimel Family Centre For Brain Health and Wellness directed at personalized dementia risk reduction. She is also the Director of the Ben and Hilda Katz Interprofessional Research Centre in Geriatric and Dementia Care at the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education. \nPaulina Rudziak\, MMASc is the Community Engagement & Research Coordinator for Baycrest Academy for Research and Education. She educates communities on brain health and leads a research study aimed at improving accessibility of Cogniciti’s brain health screening tool. \n  \n  \nThis webinar is free to attend and is presented in plain language. Roxanne Brathwaite will lead this program where we will return to a childhood pastime and re-create an interior that captures a moment in time shrunk to 1:6 scale (think Barbie’s size). \nRoxanne Brathwaite is a Toronto-based maker who creates richly detailed miniature environments inspired by texture\, materiality\, and design history. Her miniature dioramas centred around warmth\, safety\, and emotional connection\, her work invites viewers into intimate spaces while also addressing social issues such as domestic abuse\, dementia\, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Roxanne is a Season 1 contestant on CBC Gem/Netflix Canada’s Best in Miniature\, has led workshops at the Gardiner Museum and Jamie Esplanade—which was nominated for a Toronto Heritage Award. No experience required. \nJenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care. \nThis program will be held on Zoom.
