DESCRIPTION:This monthly caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for care partners of individuals diagnosed with OR suspected of having cognitive impairment residing in a long-term care or a retirement home environment to come together to share personal feelings and support each other through the caregiving experience. \nShould you choose to participate in this group please know that we expect you to observe the strictest confidentiality. In order to participate in this group\, the person you support must have some cognitive impairment and you or the resident must live in the M postal code. \nTo guide discussion\, the group will focus on different themes relating to long-term care and retirement home environments. Themes that will be discussed include: \n\nTransition to a retirement/long-term care home\nManaging feelings of guilt\, relief\, and sadness\nHow to prepare for meetings with staff and what to expect\nGrief and Ambiguous Loss\nAdvanced Health Care Planning\nWhat are responsive behaviours and why do they happen?\nActivities to engage the person you are supporting\nSpecial Occasions\n\n  \nEvery 1st Thursday of the month from 5:30pm to 7:00pm online using Zoom\n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) \n  \n*Disclaimer: Registration for this group closes on the Monday prior to the session. DESCRIPTION:6 Week\, Fridays from October 23 – November 27th at AST located at 20 Eglinton Ave West\, 16th floor. \nChoose ONE of the time slots below: \n10:30 – 11:30 AM \n1:00 – 2:00 PM \n2:30 – 3:30 PM \n\n\n\nFacilitated by student art psychotherapist Tamiko Potts\, these one-to-one sessions are for people living with mild to moderate dementia alone or with a care partner. These sessions use the creative process to support self-expression\, emotional wellbeing\, identity\, and connection. Through art-making and guided reflection\, participants are invited to explore memories\, strengths\, relationships\, emotions\, and meaningful life experiences in a way that is accessible and adaptable to changing cognitive abilities. Sessions are individualized and may incorporate visual art\, sensory experiences\, mindfulness\, reminiscence\, and nature-based approaches. No artistic experience is necessary. \nTamiko Potts is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and student art psychotherapist studying at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy who believes creativity can help people connect\, reflect\, and find joy in everyday moments. Drawing from their background in visual arts\, storytelling and community engagement\, they create inclusive and welcoming spaces. Sessions are individualized and may incorporate visual art\, sensory experiences\, mindfulness\, reminiscence\, and nature-based approaches. No artistic experience is necessary. \nTamiko Potts is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and student art psychotherapist studying at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy who believes creativity can help people connect\, reflect\, and find joy in everyday moments. DESCRIPTION:PRE-REQUISITE: You must be a FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE PROVIDER and have attended either: \n\nDementia Foundations\nDementia 101 self paced module on AlzEducate\nDementia Overview – live session delivered via Zoom or AlzEducate (check our events calendar for dates)\nExperience working with people with dementia\n\n  \nDescription\nThis training program is aimed at enhancing the knowledge of frontline staff in caring for people with dementia using a palliative care approach. This program focuses on promoting quality of life and comfort for individuals living with dementias and their families\, with particular emphasis on late stage and end of life. SUMMARY:Creative Movement - Aquafit
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, November 3rd to December 8th (6-week program) from 10:30-11:30 at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital located at 150 Kilgour Road\, Toronto\, ON Canada M4G 1R8. \nAquafit is not swimming\, it is a way to exercise in the water that can accommodate all ages\, fitness levels\, health considerations and abilities. It welcomes participants to choose their own intensity level\, speed and range of motion. The principles of water protect joints\, and build strength\, flexibility\, balance\, and endurance. This is an opportunity to enjoy simple refreshments and make new friends in a Dementia Friendly Community Space. \nThe Community Connections Cafe focuses on social wellness for people with memory loss or Dementia\, and their care partners. The program is informal with the intended atmosphere of a local coffee shop where participants can chat over a beverage\, do something creative\, or play a game. \n  \nEvery 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:30pm to 4:30pm In-person at our AST Head Office\nLocation: 20 Eglinton Ave West\, 16th Floor\, Toronto\n(Northwest corner of Yonge and Eglinton\, across the street from Yonge and Eglinton subway station. Our office tower is to the left of Metro Grocery) \n  \nRegistration is required for this program and closes at midnight (12am) the day prior to the event.\nPlease specify the number of guests attending when you register. No experience required. \nJenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care. \nThis program will be held on Zoom.
