DESCRIPTION:This monthly\, drop-in support group provides an opportunity for spouses of individuals diagnosed with OR suspected of having cognitive impairment come together and support each other through the caregiving experience. \nThe goals of this group are to share personal feelings\, increase healthy coping strategies\, decrease isolation\, and improve awareness of resources and supports in the community. SUMMARY:Bereavement Support Group (In Collaboration with Hazel Burns Hospice)
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week online support group meets to provide participants with an opportunity to support each other through the grief and bereavement process. Both practical and emotional needs will be explored to help participants cope with a loss. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOpportunity to share insights and experiences with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences\, as well as grief and bereavement\nLearn from others on adjusting to the loss and their own changing relationship to self and others.\nDiscuss and share different strategies regarding selfcare including discussion on stages of grief (various frameworks)\, finding meaning and exploring feelings related to loss and loneliness.\nReceive updated information on where to seek additional supports if desired\n\n  \nSession dates:\nThursdays from 10:00am – 12:00pm\, starting February 5th to March 26th\nWeek 1 – February 5th\nWeek 2 – February 12th\nWeek 3 – February 19th\nWeek 4 – February 26th\nWeek 5 – March 5th\nWeek 6 – March 12th\nWeek 7 – March 19th\nWeek 8 – March 26th \nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above. SUMMARY:What's First Caregiver Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Too often\, clients shared that they wish they had learned what they would learn later in their journey but much earlier\, expressing how key insight on the dementia experience would have improved their overall dementia journey.\nThis brand-new support group was designed by AST social workers in collaboration with caregivers\, people experiencing cognitive changes\, and various dementia specialists to offer key insight at the start of the dementia journey for the care partner.\nOur experience tells us that the earlier you know what you know\, the better your overall caregiving journey. \nEach session will focus on a key theme. The following themes will be discussed: \n\nAdvance Care Planning-January 21st\nGetting a Diagnosis-February 18th\nOntario Health at Home Supports and Respite Programs-March 18th\nSupportive Living Environments -April 15th\nSupporting Healthy Choices for the Person Living with Dementia and Caregiver-May 20th\nCommunication Strategies-June 17th\nRisk and Safety-July 15th\nDementia Medications-August 19th\nCare Partner and Person Living with Dementia Expressed Realities-September 16th\nInsider Dementia Wisdom and Overview of Alzheimer Society of Toronto Services-October 21st\n\nShould you choose to participate in this group please know that we expect you to observe the strictest confidentiality. \n  \nEvery 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5:30pm to 7:00pm online using Zoom\n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) \n  \n*Disclaimer: Registration for this group closes on the Monday prior to the session.
