DESCRIPTION:Dementia Foundations: The first step in your dementia education journey. \nThis 3-hour course will provide you with a foundation of dementia\, enabling you to enhance your knowledge in providing quality care for persons living with dementia. \nBy the end of this 3-hour course\, learners will be able to: \n\nDescribe Person-Centered Care\nDescribe general aspects of aging\, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia\nInterpret how changes in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease will affect all aspects of an individual’s life\nRecognize that challenging behaviour is responsive behaviour\nRecall services and programs offered by the local Alzheimer Society for professionals\, people living with dementia and their care partners\n\nLearners are highly encouraged to take this course before registering for U-First! or Palliative care to enhance the learning experience. \n  \nPlease Read Before Registering\nAt the Alzheimer Society of Toronto\, we are committed to providing accessible education opportunities to health care professionals. It offers a safe and supportive space to learn\, reflect\, and build skills to manage daily caregiving challenges. \n  \nIn this one-day\, in-person small-group workshop\, you will receive: \n\nSimple tools to solve daily caregiving problems\nHands-on coaching with experienced group leaders to practice new strategies\nThe chance to connect with others who understand your experience\n\n  \nSession dates: \nWorkshop: Wednesday July 29\, 2026 – 9:00am-5:00pm (in-person at AST Head office) \nFollow-up session one: Tuesday August 11\, 2026  – 10:00am-11:30am (online via Zoom) \nFollow-up session two: Tuesday August 25\, 2026 – 10:00am-11:30am (online via Zoom) \n  \n  \nNote: The Facing Dementia Together Workshop is a new addition to the Enhancing Care Program (https://carersontario.ca/) created by the Reitman Centre at Mt. No experience required. \nJenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care. \nThis program will be held on Zoom.
