As part of her training\, Kathleen will be facilitating free art therapy group sessions. \nGroup art therapy sessions will provide participants with opportunities to work independently and with others to explore and express feelings and ideas that arise in the sessions. It is an hour of pure joy and fun! \nSteve Koven is a composer\, performer\, producer\, educator\, and filmmaker. His band the Steve Koven Trio has toured the world for more than two decades\, and they have been coined the ‘Canadian Cultural Ambassadors’. As an educator\, Steve has been teaching in the Faculty of Music at Toronto’s York University\, teaching Contemporary Improvisation and Jazz Piano Studies. Weaving together the stories of care partners\, it lifts the veil on what it is to love someone living with the disease as time becomes non-linear\, transporting you from the present to the past to an uncertain future. Along with rich\, unforgettable individual storytelling\, these narratives are woven into music performed by the Golden Threads Choir – a unique ensemble of people living with dementia along with their care partners – whose singing elicits joy\, connectedness\, and relationship to memories. DESCRIPTION:The Community Connections Café is a welcoming space where people with memory loss or Dementia\, and their care partners\, can come to connect with others and support their brain health while socializing. This is an opportunity to enjoy simple refreshments and make new friends in a Dementia Friendly Community Space\nThe Community Connections Cafe focuses on social wellness for people with memory loss or Dementia\, and their care partners. The program is informal with the intended atmosphere of a local coffee shop where participants can chat over a beverage\, do something creative\, or play a game.\n\nEvery 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:30pm to 4:30pm In-person at our AST Head Office.\n \n\nLocation: 20 Eglinton Ave West\, 16th Floor\, Toronto\n(Northwest corner of Yonge and Eglinton\, across the street from Yonge and Eglinton subway station. Our office tower is to the left of Metro Grocery)\n  \n\nRegistration is required for this program and closes at midnight (12am) the day prior to the event.\nPlease specify the number of guests attending when you register. SUMMARY:Living with Ambiguous Loss Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This 4-week online caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience\, with a structured focus on the concept of “Ambiguous Loss”. This group is inspired by Pauline Boss’ book “Loving Someone With Dementia“. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop an understanding of the concept of “Ambiguous Loss” and ambiguous loss in the context of dementia\, and how this unique type of loss differs from other losses\nDevelop coping strategies to implement in their own lives\nObtain a better understanding of their own experiences of grief related to caring for their family member\nEngage in self reflection and share insights related to their caregiving experience\nLearn from others on adjusting to the losses and their own changing relationship to self and others\n\nThis group will run for four consecutive weeks online using Zoom. Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the start date. \nSession dates:\nThursdays from 10am–12pm\, starting January 30th ending February 20th. \n\nWeek 1 – January 30th\nWeek 2 – February 6th\nWeek 3 – February 13th\nWeek 4 – February 20th\n\n* Please note\, participants are expected to commit to all 4 sessions listed above.
