SUMMARY:Mid-Town Social
DESCRIPTION:Image caption: \nSamia Halaby\, \nGreen Hay\, 1999\nOil on canvas\, 45 x 45 centimeters \nNovember 11th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at AST located at 20 Eglinton Ave West\, 16th floor. \nMid-Town Social brings together people living with dementia and their care partners for connection\, conversation\, and fun. Each session offers an engaging social activity\, followed by a shared meal. It’s a welcoming space to meet others\, build meaningful connections\, and enjoy time together. \nThis month\, we welcome arts educator Jano Cortijo\, who will guide us in exploring the colourful and experimental work of Samia Halaby\, an artist who has been creating abstract paintings since the 1960s. We’ll look at works from throughout her career and explore her bright\, vibrant compositions together. Bring your curiosity and come ready to share your thoughts and ideas. We’ll finish the session with an opportunity to draw and colour. \n\nJano Cortijo is a gay\, immigrant\, bilingual arts educator whose independent/on-call/seasonal/per diem work finds him engaging audiences of various ages\, abilities\, and backgrounds in museums\, classrooms\, community centers\, or computer screens. Straying far from the canon to elevate artists and works that have been excluded or erased from mainstream conversations\, Cortijo creates significant exchanges in programs that encourage critical discussion while connecting the participants’ individual histories and stories with the art and art makers.\n\n  \nFor more information please contact Kristin Bartlett at kbartlett@alz.to or call 416-389-6099. \nClick HERE to learn more about what to expect in our Active Living Programs.
