SUMMARY:Understanding the Needs of Caregivers/Care Partners: Caregiver Health\, Resources and Relevant Research
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explore issues that are specific to caregivers/care partners of people living with dementia. The importance of caregiver health will be discussed\, as well as the breadth of resources that are available within the community. The webinar will also explore active research that is being conducted to better understand the needs of caregivers/care partners. \n  \nAbout the presenters: \nDr. Mary Chiu is a dedicated Research Scientist at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. Dr. Chiu’s research interests lie within geriatric psychiatry\, specifically the social psychology of older adults and the concept of psychological resilience in the context of informal caregiving and dementia. She has dedicated her career to understanding the needs of caregivers/care partners of people living with dementia and working with this population to develop programs and mechanisms that prepare and support them in their role. \n  \nDr. Adriana Shnall is the Director of Integrated Learning\, Caregiving and Innovation at Baycrest\, where her work includes leadership of the Koschitzky Centre for Innovations in Family Caregiving. She works with family and friend caregivers and older adults to develop\, evaluate and implement innovative approaches to caregiving support\, including for people living with dementia. Dr. Shnall has over 30 years of clinical experience working with older adults and their families across outpatient and community services\, long-term care and inpatient settings. \n  \nThis webinar is free to attend and is presented in plain language. You will also have the opportunity ask questions. \nPresented in partnership with the Toronto Dementia Research Alliance (TDRA) and the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.

DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, November 3rd to December 8th (6-week program) from 10:30-11:30 at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital located at 150 Kilgour Road\, Toronto\, ON Canada M4G 1R8. \nAquafit is not swimming\, it is a way to exercise in the water that can accommodate all ages\, fitness levels\, health considerations and abilities. It welcomes participants to choose their own intensity level\, speed and range of motion. The principles of water protect joints\, and build strength\, flexibility\, balance\, and endurance. DESCRIPTION:This monthly support group will provide an opportunity for care partners of individuals living with Frontotemporal dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience.\n \nLearning Objectives:\n– Opportunity to share insights with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences\n– Become familiar with this specific type of dementia\n– Discuss and share different strategies regarding self-care and care for the person they are supporting (including stress\, communication and responding to behaviours)\n– Learn about how others are adjusting to their own changing relationship\n– Receive updated information about the services available at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto\n \n \n\nEvery 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30pm to 7:00pm online using Zoom.\n(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date) \n  \n*Disclaimer: Registration for this group closes on the Monday prior to the session. SUMMARY:U-First!® for Care Partners
DESCRIPTION:U-First!® for Care Partners is an interactive education program for informal care partners (family\, friends\, neighbours) who are providing direct unpaid support to someone experiencing behaviour changes as a result of dementia or other cognitive impairment. \n  \nThis education program focuses on: \n\nEnhancing the well-being of care partners and of the person they are supporting who is experiencing behaviour changes\nReducing responsive behaviours by using the U-First!® framework\nImproving collaboration among all team members through a common knowledge\, language and approach to care\n\n  \nSession Dates: \nTuesday\, November 24th \, 10am-12pm \nTuesday\, December 1st \, 10am-12pm \nTuesday December 8th\, 10am-12pm \nTuesday\, December 15th\, 10am-12pm \n  \n  \nDeadline to register is Tuesday\, November 3\, 2026 \n**Please note that there will be an additional screening of all interested participants to ensure there is a fit between the program and participant.
