DESCRIPTION:This 8-week online program is for partners and spouses of people with mid- to late-stage dementia. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. Through therapeutic art activities inspired by the season\, participants will have the opportunity to explore creativity\, self-expression\, connection\, and wellbeing in a welcoming outdoor setting. \nThe program includes a picnic lunch\, all art supplies\, and guided activities designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all abilities. No artistic experience is necessary – just curiosity\, creativity\, and a willingness to explore. Come enjoy fresh air\, good company\, and a meaningful afternoon of art and connection. \nFacilitated by Tamiko Potts\, a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and student art psychotherapist studying at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy who believes creativity can help people connect\, reflect\, and find joy in everyday moments. No experience required. \nJenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care. \nThis program will be held on Zoom.
