DESCRIPTION:This 8-week in-person program is for spousal care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. \nGoals of the Program: \n\nEnhance practical skills for caregivers\nImprove caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills\nEnhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges\nImprove caregivers’ social interaction and social support\n\n  \nSession dates:\nTuesdays from 10:30am–12:30pm\, starting August 12th\, ending September 29th (*the last session is a Monday due to our office closure) \n\nWeek 1 – August 12th\nWeek 2 – August 19th\nWeek 3 – August 26th\nWeek 4 – September 2nd\nWeek 5 – September 9th\nWeek 6 – September 16th\nWeek 7 – September 23rd\nWeek 8 – Monday\, September 29th\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above. DESCRIPTION:What is U-First!®  for Care Partners? \nU-First!® for Care Partners is a new education program for family and friends who are providing direct support to someone experiencing behaviour changes as a result of dementia or other cognitive impairment. \nThis 6 hour education program will help you to: \n\nEnhance well-being of care partners and of the person they are supporting who is experiencing behaviour changes\nReduce responsive behaviours by using the U-First!® framework\nImprove collaboration among all team members through a common knowledge\, language and approach to care.\n\n  \nMandatory Session Dates:\nTuesday\, August 5th from 10:00am-12:00pm\nTuesday\, August 12th from 10:00am-12:00pm\nTuesday\, August 19th from 10:00am-12:00pm \nOptional Session Date:\nTuesday\, August 26th from 10:00am-12:00pm \n  \nWho should attend? \nU-First!® for Care Partners is for family and friends of people experiencing behaviour changes as a result of dementia or other cognitive impairment who provide direct support for that person in an unpaid role. \nWhat’s involved in the program? \n\nInteractive learning approach that has participants reflect on their experiences\, engage with new content\, practice using a variety of methods including case studies and plan for how they will implement what they have learned.\nLearners receive a Participant Workbook and a U-First!® Wheel to use during the program and keep as useful resources for applying their learning.\nLearners will also be invited to take part in an evaluation to better understand the effectiveness and outcomes of the program.  In addition\, a sample of participants will be invited to take part in an interview with the Evaluator. All learners will be invited to participate in evaluation activities but will not be excluded from the program if they choose not to participate in the evaluation.\n\nWhat’s the cost for the program? \nThere is no cost for participants of U-First!® for Care Partners. \n  \nPlease note that there will be additional screening of all interested participants to ensure there is a fit between the program and participant.\nScreening will commence in July\, and you can expect a screening call 2-4 weeks before the first session. You will able to enjoy cool refreshments\, indulge in a sweet marshmallow treat\, say hello to our four-legged\, furry friend and relax into the calm atmosphere. And get ready for some FUN!   Hannah and Alex have created a playlist that will send you back to the sounds of the 70s but don’t worry – it includes hits we all know and love to sing around a fire with an accompanying guitar.  Requests are welcomed through the Registration link! Experience an afternoon that will transport you back to a time where you gathered together with friends to enjoy the sounds of the summer.

No experience required. \nJenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care. \nThis program will be held on Zoom. SUMMARY:Adult Child Long-Term Care CARERS Program
DESCRIPTION:This 8-week in-person program is for adult child care partners of people with mid- to late-stage dementia that are living in long-term care. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital\, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers\, guided by expert clinical coaches\, will learn how to address communication challenges. \nGoals of the Program: \n\nEnhance practical skills for caregivers\nImprove caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills\nEnhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges\nImprove caregivers’ social interaction and social support\n\n  \nSession dates:\nWednesdays from 3:00pm–5:00pm\, starting July 30th\, ending September 17th. \n\nWeek 1 – July 30th\nWeek 2 – August 6th\nWeek 3 – August 13th\nWeek 4 – August 20th\nWeek 5 – August 27th\nWeek 6 – September 3rd\nWeek 7 – September 10th\nWeek 8 – September 17th\n\nPlease note\, participants are expected to commit to all 8 sessions listed above.
