City of Toronto Caregiver Strategy – Virtual Focus Groups

2020-08-09T12:31:35-04:00

City of Toronto Caregiver Strategy – Virtual Focus Groups

Alzheimer Society Toronto (AST) is thrilled to be leading the work on the City of Toronto Caregiver Strategy. The strategy, one of 27 recommendations outlined in the Toronto Seniors Strategy (V.2) as approved by Toronto City Council, will propose a focused and collaborative approach that better addresses and meets the needs of seniors and caregivers in Toronto.

If you are a caregiver, or have been in the past, for someone living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, we invite you to take part in a virtual focus group to provide input and direction in the development of the City of Toronto Caregiver Strategy.

Scott Russell, CEO of AST will facilitate a space for you and others to share your lived experiences as a caregiver – with particulate emphasis on how COVID-19 has impacted you, what are the challenges you face, and how can the City of Toronto and other community agencies better support you.

A confirmation email containing the zoom link to participate will be sent to you once you register. A short survey will be sent to you prior to the focus group to collect general data on your caregiving situation. This data will not be shared outside of the organization. Please note the Alzheimer Society of Toronto is committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your personal information.

About the City of Toronto Seniors Strategy

For the first time in history, there are now more Torontonians over the age of 65 than children aged 15 and below. By 2031, ONE-QUARTER of the City’s population will be over the age of 60. Recognizing the significant policy, service and resource implications of this demographic shift, Council adopted the Toronto Seniors Strategy 2.0 (EX34.2) on May 22, 2018. This includes direction to establish a Seniors Housing and Services entity at the City.  An “Accountability Table” of 100+ agencies, department and community groups has informed and guided the development of the strategy. With this context, it is Alzheimer Society of Toronto’s desire to support Recommendation #6 to develop a Caregiver Strategy, leveraging the breadth and political success of the Accountability Table to support Seniors aging in the community including frail and those living with cognitive decline.
