Dementia Care Training Program (In-classroom)

U-First! Online is offered on the e-learning platform Alzeducate.  It is a 3 week course with a blended format.  Activities are released on a weekly basis and learners can self direct their learning provided all activities are completed by the end of the week.  There is also a live mandatory 1 hour webinar that learners must attend during week 3 of the course.  There will be 2 time options that learners can choose from. 

U-First!® is a training program that helps non-registered health care providers develop a common knowledge base, language, values and approach to caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairment.

The U-First! Program will help you:

  •  Understand that there can be many reasons why you might see behaviour changes in the person
  •  Flag the possible changes that you may see when you are supporting the person
  •  Interact in a new way with both skill and a common understanding of dementia and other cognitive impairments
  •  Reflect and report on not only new behaviours you may see in the person you are supporting but also share your   strategies and tips with the team
  •  Support the person and their care partners in everyday activities
  •  Know that you are part of an important Team in caring for the person

Training date: February 13 to March 6

Webinars on March 2  (12:00 pm and 8:00 pm)

U-First! Basics for Healthcare Providers – ONLINE (BSO)

U-First!® Basics for Healthcare Providers supports health care and other service providers who work with people living with dementia or other cognitive impairments.  U-First!® builds on existing curriculum and encourages learners to make lifelong learning a goal.  The vision is to provide every member of the care team with consistent education on key skills and best care practices.  It sets the stage for common knowledge, language for communicating with all members of the care team (including informal care partners), and a comprehensive approach to care.
 
This program is for personal support workers and other front-line health care workers (including dietary, rehabilitation and social service staff, activationists, nurses, and health care students).
 
Training date and time:
 
Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
  
Program is presented using Zoom. Registration is required. 
 
Registration deadline is January 8, 2023
 
**We will be mailing you a workbook before the training date, provide us with your complete mailing address including apartment number when you register. If you do not have the workbook at the training date, you will not be permitted to the training.
