This webinar will explore issues that are specific to caregivers/care partners of people living with dementia. The importance of caregiver health will be discussed, as well as the breadth of resources that are available within the community. The webinar will also explore active research that is being conducted to better understand the needs of caregivers/care partners.

 

About the presenters:

Dr. Mary Chiu is a dedicated Research Scientist at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. Dr. Chiu’s research interests lie within geriatric psychiatry, specifically the social psychology of older adults and the concept of psychological resilience in the context of informal caregiving and dementia. She has dedicated her career to understanding the needs of caregivers/care partners of people living with dementia and working with this population to develop programs and mechanisms that prepare and support them in their role.

 

Dr. Adriana Shnall is the Director of Integrated Learning, Caregiving and Innovation at Baycrest, where her work includes leadership of the Koschitzky Centre for Innovations in Family Caregiving. She works with family and friend caregivers and older adults to develop, evaluate and implement innovative approaches to caregiving support, including for people living with dementia. Dr. Shnall has over 30 years of clinical experience working with older adults and their families across outpatient and community services, long-term care and inpatient settings.
