By joining our volunteer team, you’ll contribute to the meaningful work that supports individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Whether you’re looking to gain new skills, connect with like-minded people, or give back to the community, we offer a variety of opportunities that align with your interests and availability.

How to get started
- Explore Opportunities: Browse our volunteer portal to find a role that aligns with your interests.
- Apply and Book an Interview: Once you find a suitable role, create a volunteer profile and select a volunteer interview time slot.
- Interview and Reference Check: During the interview, we’ll discuss your skills and interests. Be prepared to provide two references.
- Training and Background Check: Complete our onboarding training modules and submit a vulnerable sector check, as we work with vulnerable populations.
- Get Involved: After completing all the steps, you can officially sign up and start making a difference with AST.

Programs & Services
Engage in our programs and services by assisting with Active Living Programs, leading or supporting workshops, or helping with special initiatives.

Special Events
Support our fundraising efforts and awareness campaigns through activities like phone outreach, distributing flyers, event prep packing days, and helping with event-day logistics to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Special Projects
Take on unique, project-based roles that leverage your specific skills, in marketing, outreach, advocacy or creative development.

Volunteer of All Trades Award:
Ayesha
This award recognizes a volunteer who has gone above and beyond, supporting the Alzheimer Society in various ways and lending diverse skills. Ayesha has been a pivotal force within the Fund Development team, bringing enthusiasm, initiative, and adaptability to every role. Her support has spanned from administrative tasks, such as outreach calls and data entry, to energetic, in-person contributions at community events, including third-party fundraisers like the HOPE Volleyball Tournament, where she provided vital hands-on support. Beyond events, Ayesha has made meaningful contributions to the Music Project, curating personalized playlists that enhance client well-being, and has embraced innovation through her involvement in Virtual Reality Volunteer Training. Her versatility and willingness to step up wherever needed has made a lasting impact across multiple programs. Ayesha’s dedication, professionalism, and passion truly embody the spirit of this award.

Ripple Effect Volunteer Award:
Francheska
This award recognizes a volunteer who has had a deep and lasting impact on the individuals they interact with Francheska exemplifies this through her steady presence and thoughtful support across several programs, including Making Strides Winter Walker, East End Friends and as a Support Group Assistant. The nature of these programs requires a volunteer who is flexible, attentive, and able to build strong connections — and Francheska does this with ease. Her consistent involvement creates a sense of reliability for staff and a safe, welcoming environment for clients. This dependable presence helps foster meaningful relationships and encourages continued participation from those she supports. Francheska’s ripple effect is felt in the comfort, connection, and community she helps cultivate — leaving a lasting impact that reaches far beyond a single moment.

Life-long Learner Award:
Cherry
This award recognizes a continued quest for knowledge and skill development in volunteer work. Cherry brings a wealth of experience and truly embodies the spirit of a lifelong learner. She’s supported peer groups, contributed to the Care Partner’s Story of Timeless Love workshop, and embraced new tools like Virtual Reality Volunteer Training to explore how technology can help people living with dementia connect and reminisce. Her involvement in the Accreditation process further shows her commitment to AST’s growth. With her openness, compassion, and curiosity, Cherry is a valued and inspiring part of our community—a beautiful reminder that learning and impact can thrive at any stage of life.

Changemaker Volunteer Award:
Kim
The Changemaker Award acknowledges a volunteer who has driven transformative change at AST. Kim has done just that through her thoughtful leadership, creativity, and deep commitment as a Peer Support Group Co-Facilitator and Advisory Committee member. Her warm and intuitive approach fosters a supportive space where caregivers feel heard and connected. Beyond her facilitation role, Kim brings forward fresh, experience-based ideas to enhance programming and caregiver support. She has contributed her voice on stage in our ALP production Love and the Trick of Time, spoken at the Unforgettable Gala, and served as a generous donor and passionate ambassador for AST. Kim’s dedication, innovation, and authentic presence have left a meaningful and lasting impact on our community.

Outstanding Volunteer of the Year:
Nada
The Harbel Singh Arora Volunteer of the Year Award celebrates a volunteer who embodies Harbel’s spirit of service—showing deep commitment, resilience, and a strong connection to AST’s mission. This year, we are proud to honour Nada for her unwavering dedication and heartfelt contributions. From outreach and Active Living Programs to the Community Connections Café and the theatre production Love and the Trick of Time, Nada has made a lasting impact—supporting performers living with dementia and even taking the stage herself. With compassion, adaptability, and a personal connection to the cause, Nada consistently goes above and beyond. She is someone both staff and clients deeply rely on, and her journey truly reflects the heart of this award.
