Dance Fitness – Zoom

This gentle low impact dance fitness class with Jenn uses diverse music and simple dance movements to create a dynamic and energizing aerobic workout. With easy to follow moves that can be done seated or standing, this upbeat class is set to positive, playful and uplifting music. You will be motivated by the joyful, welcoming and supportive environment that encourages you to let go and have fun! No experience required.

Jenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care.

This program will be held on Zoom. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link to participate.

Dementia Foundations (for Health Care Professionals) – Zoom

Dementia Foundations: The first step in your dementia education journey.
 
This 3-hour course will provide you with a foundation of dementia, enabling you to enhance your knowledge in providing quality care for persons living with dementia. 
 
By the end of this 3 hour course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe Person-Centered Care
  • Describe general aspects of aging, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
  • Interpret how changes in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease will affect all aspects of an individual’s life
  • Recognize that challenging behaviour is responsive behaviour
  • Recall services and programs offered by the local Alzheimer Society for professionals, people living with dementia and their care partners

Learners are highly encouraged to take this course before registering for U-First! Basics or Palliative care to enhance the learning experience.

Open General Caregiver Support Group (5:00pm to 7:00pm) – Zoom

This monthly caregiver support group will provide an opportunity for caregivers/partners of individuals living with dementia to come together to support each other through the caregiving experience.
 

Learning Objectives:
– Opportunity to share feelings and insights with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences
– Discuss and share different strategies regarding self-care and care for the person they are supporting (including stress, communication and responding to behaviours)
– Learn about how others are adjusting to their own changing relationship
– Receive information about the services available at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto

 

Every 1st Tuesday of the month from 5:00pm to 7:00pm online using Zoom

(Zoom information will be provided via email at least 24-48 hours prior to the date)

Wives Support Group – Zoom

This support group is full, Click here if you wish to be in the wait list.

In partnership with Providence, this ongoing support group will provide an opportunity for spousal care partners to come together to support each other through caregiving experience.

Participants will decide on the focus and direction of the group, and both practical and emotional needs will be explored.

Learning Objectives:

  • Opportunity to share insights and experiences with each other related to their personal caregiving experiences
  • Learn about how others are adjusting to their own changing relationship
  • Receive updated information about dementia and the services available at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto and in the community
