This workshop will review the importance of Advance Care Planning, and the steps involved in the process, in the case where one becomes mentally incapable of making their health care decisions.
Learning Objectives:• Understand what is Advance Care Planning and why it is important• Learn about the steps involved in Advance Care Planning• Understand what is a Substitute Decision Maker and how to appoint a Power of Attorney• Recognize what does capacity and incapacity mean in Ontario

This workshop is to help family caregivers related to a person living with dementia identify their sources of stress and develop coping strategies.

Objectives:

  • Explore the different types of stress caregivers may experience and develop coping strategies to deal with the stress
  • Increase awareness of the importance of self-care for the caregiver
  • Develop an understanding of support services in the community and where to seek those services

This workshop is for family caregivers of those living with dementia. It will focus on helping caregivers identify the risks unique to their situation and make the necessary modifications at different stages of the disease. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the functions of the brain and impact of dementia on capacities
  • Develop an understanding of capacity losses and impact on activities of daily living
  • Get tips on helping the person living with dementia manage life at home
  • Learn about community resources
