CARERS Program – Family & Friends Long-Term Care (8 sessions) – ONLINE

This 8-week online program is for Non-Spousal Family Memers and/or Friends supporting someone with mid- to late-stage dementia in Long-Term Care. Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers, guided by expert clinical coaches, will learn how to address communication challenges.

Goals of the Program:

Enhance practical skills for caregivers
Improve caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills
Enhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges
Improve caregivers’ social interaction and social support
Dates: Fridays – May 12, 19, & 26 & June 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30.

Time: 10am-12pm

Location: the group will be held online using Zoom

Registration and an assessment appointment via Zoom are prerequisites. An AST Social Worker will contact you for your assessment after you click the “Register” button below.

Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers, guided by expert clinical coaches, will learn how to address communication challenges.

  • Improve caregivers’ social interaction and social support

Dates: Tuesdays, April 25th to June 13th, 2023

Training, Education, and Assistance for Caregiving at Home (TEACH) – ONLINE

The TEACH (Training, Education, and Assistance for Caregiving at Home) Program is a Reitman Centre caregiver program which consists of 4 weekly group sessions that are each 90 minutes long.

Learning objectives: 

  • Focus on common caregiving themes including; self-care, healthcare system navigation, relationship changes and future planning
  • Coaches care partners in practical communication and coping skills
  • Provides opportunity to share and learn from other care partners

Dates: Thursdays – April 20th to May 11th

Time: from 4:30pm to 6pm

Location: the group will be held online using Zoom

Developed by the Reitman Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital, CARERS is a comprehensive dementia care program that supports problem-solving skill development and introduces the innovative use of standardized patients – actors trained to simulate real-life situations – so that caregivers, guided by expert clinical coaches, will learn how to address communication challenges.

  • Improve caregivers’ coping and problem-solving skills
  • Enhance caregivers’ confidence in dealing with challenges
  • Improve caregivers’ social interaction and social support

Dates: Thursdays, April 6th to May 25th, 2023

Time: 1:30pm to 3:30pm

Location: the group will be held in person at 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th Floor (Alzheimer Society of Toronto’s head office)

The TEACH (Training, Education, and Assistance for Caregiving at Home) Program for LTC Caregivers is a Reitman Centre caregiver program which consists of 4 weekly group sessions that are each 90 minutes long.

Learning objectives:

  • Focus on common caregiving themes including; self-care, LTC system navigation, relationship changes and future planning
  • Coaches care partners in practical communication and coping skills
  • Provides opportunity to share and learn from other care partners
  • Dates: Wednesdays – April 5, 12, 19, 26

    Time: from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm

    Location: the group will be held online using Zoom

  • Provides opportunity to share and learn from other care partners
The group will be facilitated online in CANTONESE

Fridays, March 24th to April 21st (skipping April 7th) from 10:30 am – 12pm

Registration and an assessment appointment via Zoom are prerequisites.
