U-First! ® Advanced – ONLINE


U-First!® Advanced is a new education program for health care staff  who provide direct care, who have already taken U-First!®  and want to enhance their skills and ability to apply the U-First!® Framework.

This 6 hour education program will help you to:

  • Deepen your understanding and ability to apply the U-First! Framework
  • Improve collaboration among all members of the team, including care partners
  • Increase the wellbeing of people experiencing behaviour changes
  • Reduce stress and increase job satisfaction for you and for others on the team

Dates and time: 

February 14 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Cost: $80 plus $5 shipping of course materials. 

Training will be presented using Zoom. 

Who should attend?

U-First!® Advanced is for healthcare professionals who have previously taken part in a U-First!® Basics for Healthcare Providers or U-First!® Online course and want to enhance their skills and ability to apply the U-First!® Framework.

Health care and other service providers with a direct role in supporting people experiencing behaviour changes due to dementia or other cognitive impairment in a variety of settings (e.g. Support Workers, Dietary staff, Recreation staff, Housekeeping, Developmental Service Workers, Adult Day Program staff). 

Certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the training requirements.

U-First! Online


U-First! Online is offered on the e-learning platform Alzeducate.  It is a 3 week course with a blended format.  Activities are released on a weekly basis and learners can self direct their learning provided all activities are completed by the end of the week.  There is also a live mandatory 1 hour webinar that learners must attend during week 3 of the course.  There will be 2 time options that learners can choose from. 

U-First!® is a training program that helps non-registered health care providers develop a common knowledge base, language, values and approach to caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairment.

The U-First! Program will help you:

  •  Understand that there can be many reasons why you might see behaviour changes in the person
  •  Flag the possible changes that you may see when you are supporting the person
  •  Interact in a new way with both skill and a common understanding of dementia and other cognitive impairments
  •  Reflect and report on not only new behaviours you may see in the person you are supporting but also share your   strategies and tips with the team
  •  Support the person and their care partners in everyday activities
  •  Know that you are part of an important Team in caring for the person

Training date: February 13 to March 6
