Gifts of Securities & Donor-Advised Funds

Making a gift of publicly traded securities, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, or recommending a grant through your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a tax-efficient way to support the more than 51,000 people living with dementia in Toronto and the families who care for them.

By giving in a tax-smart way, you may be able to maximize both your charitable impact and your tax benefits, helping ensure that more people affected by dementia receive the care, support, and programs they need.

Gifts of Securities

Donating publicly traded securities directly to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto can be one of the most tax-effective ways to give. When you donate eligible securities instead of selling them first, you may eliminate the capital gains tax that would otherwise apply, while receiving a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of your gift.

We encourage you to consult your financial advisor to determine the giving strategy that best aligns with your philanthropic and financial goals.

When you are ready to make a gift, please complete our Securities Donation Form to arrange the electronic transfer of securities from your brokerage account to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto. In accordance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines, your charitable tax receipt will be issued based on the closing market value of the securities on the date they are received in our account.

You can also choose to include gifts of publicly traded securities as part of your estate plans, creating a lasting legacy for future generations of families affected by dementia.

Donor-Advised Funds

If you have a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), you can recommend a grant to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto quickly and easily through your fund administrator.

Whether you make a one-time grant or support us year after year, your generosity helps provide essential programs, education, counselling, and support for people living with dementia and those who care for them.
