Dance Fitness – Zoom

This gentle low impact dance fitness class with Jenn uses diverse music and simple dance movements to create a dynamic and energizing aerobic workout. With easy to follow moves that can be done seated or standing, this upbeat class is set to positive, playful and uplifting music. You will be motivated by the joyful, welcoming and supportive environment that encourages you to let go and have fun! No experience required.

Jenn Hicks is a Personal Trainer Size and Inclusive Fitness Specialist who has taught dance fitness classes for the past 17 years. She was named NOW Magazine’s Best Virtual Fitness Instructor for 2020. Jenn customizes routines for every class and helps attendees modify steps or movements whenever they need a little extra care.

This program will be held on Zoom. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link to participate.

The Community Connections Café is a welcoming space where people with memory loss or Dementia, and their care partners, can come to connect with others and support their brain health while socializing. This is an opportunity to enjoy simple refreshments and make new friends in a Dementia Friendly Community Space
 
The Community Connections Cafe focuses on social wellness for people with memory loss or Dementia, and their care partners. The program is informal with the intended atmosphere of a local coffee shop where participants can chat over a beverage, do something creative, or play a game.
 
 
Registration is required for this program. 
Please specify the number of guests attending when you register. You may register up to 3 persons per group.

Garden Wellness Cafe -Summer 2024 (Virtual)

Weekly on WEDNESDAYS: May 15, 22, 29, June 5, 12, and 19 (6 weeks) from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M.
Join the Garden Wellness Cafe to transition cheerfully into summer! Led by certified forest therapy guide and horticultural therapy practitioner, Emma Rooney, learn to connect to nearby nature for your wellness. From the comfort of your home, you’ll have a chance to meet others in a fun and supportive environment and be transported to beautiful outdoor settings through photos, art, and sound.

Our summer 2024 series will include seed starting, flower pressing, and creating a peaceful garden nook. We’ll also be tasting local asparagus and making our own hydrating iced tea. Our final series session will be a chance to celebrate the start of summer and National Indigenous Peoples Day.

This program will be held on Zoom. Participants will be mailed program materials and expected to collect some simple supplies on their own (instructions provided). 

Garden Wellness Cafe is intended for people living with early to mid-stages of dementia, young onset dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Caregivers are invited to attend alongside a person living with dementia or to join us to get ideas for sharing nature-based exploration with the person they are supporting.

Working with Clay – The Fundamentals of Hand Building (112 Hampton Ave))

Working with Clay with Noel Yardley
Tuesdays, May 7th – June 11th 2024 from 1:30 P.M –  2:30 P.M at Noel Yardley Ceramics Studios located at 112 Hampton Ave Toronto, ON, M4K 2Z1 (6 week Series).

May 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, June 4th & 11th 2024
This 6 week course will familiarize participants with the basic techniques of working with clay with your hands – a great introduction to clay work. We will focus on three fundamental hand building skills: making a pinch pot, a coil pot and finally a slab pot. The skills required are relatively simple and accessible to anyone with the right encouragement and support. In this in-studio course, all tools and materials will be provided. We will alternate weekly between forming a new type of pot and learning how to add easy decorative elements to our pots such as carving, using an underglaze or slip and creating feet and handles. Participants will come away from the course with the ability to continue their exploration of pottery at home, using a few tools that can be found around the house, working in a well-ventilated space with clay.

Noel Yardley is a ceramic artist based in Toronto. He studied at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa, graduating in 1998. In his ceramic work. Yardley applies experimental ceramic techniques and pop art culture influences to produce sculptural pieces . He has exhibited work at the Design Indaba (Cape Town), 100% Design (London) and Object en Maison (Paris). Yardley is in private collections in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Berlin, Milan, Virginia and Ontario.

In Cape Town South Africa, Yardley taught ceramics to teens and adults from 2007 to 2011 at Chrysalis Academy. He went on to become a production ceramicist and educator at Art in Forest from 2013 to 2018.

Yardley teaches at the Toronto School of Art and worked as a studio technician at the Gardner Museum. Currently, he works with fellow designer, Thomas Bollmann, at their own studio called MaakOst. Located on the East End , they focus on teaching, design and production ceramics.

Rooftop Roots – a gardening series, will be held at the Canoe Landing Community Centre located at 45 Fort York Blvd, Toronto, ON M5V 3Y2

Join us for Rooftop Roots, a green roof gardening program where participants will explore the sensory delights of gardening and the joy of connecting with nature and each other.

This series is for people living with mild to moderate dementia and their care partners. It is appropriate for all learners at all levels and provides opportunities for each participant to learn at their own pace and in their own style.
