Program Goals

  • Promote all dimensions of active living integral to overall well-being.

  • Introduce people living with dementia to the benefits of physical activity.

  • Engage participants in creative outlets that stimulate cognitive abilities, participation and reminiscences.

  • Provide meaningful opportunities for social inclusion.

Complete Program List

In partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the Alzheimer Society of Toronto offers a one-hour guided tour for people living with dementia and their caregivers. The tour is facilitated by an experienced AGO Docent and is assisted by Alzheimer Society of Toronto’s volunteers.

This is a multi-week art series workshop for people living with dementia and their caregivers is offered in an encouraging and relaxing environment and by a professional art teacher. The failure-free environment in our art program can help the participants to learn, experiment, and explore creativity with a variety of art projects and mediums.

Please note: No experience is necessary. Materials and refreshments are provided.

The Boomers Club is a weekly program that focuses on wellness for the people with Early Onset Dementias (under age 65) and their care partners. The idea is to create informal connections among people who are on the same journey. The program is flexible and can be modified based on the needs and interests of the group participants.

Minds in Motion® is a program that combines physical activity as well as mental and social stimulation for individuals living with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias and their caregivers.

Non-Impact Aerobics (NIA) is an energizing cardio dance fitness practice for people living with dementia and their caregivers. NIA uses easy to follow movements to build strength and flexibility while conditioning your body. The sessions are adapted and sensitive to all levels of agility and are suitable for individuals who want the support of being seated throughout the class.

We offer various outings throughout the year to places and events such as the TIFF: Senior’s Film Fridays, garden tours, museum tours, Black Creek Pioneer Village tours, and more. Please check our calendar for the next outing.

In partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum, the Alzheimer Society of Toronto offers a one-hour guided tour for people living with dementia and their caregivers. The tour is facilitated by two of the museum’s experienced Docents and is assisted by Alzheimer Society of Toronto’s volunteers.
