This workshop is for care partners of a person living with dementia

This workshop is to help care partners recognize and identify the causes of guilt and anger in caregiving and develop coping strategies to reframe guilt, anger and build resilience.

 

For Family and Friends of people living with dementia

This workshop is for care partners of persons in the late stage of dementia. It provides an opportunity to discuss issues regarding changes in the late stage, approaching the End-of-Life, making difficult decisions for this stage, grief and the need to take care of yourself.

This interactive 2-hour workshop will help participants reflect on all aspects of their well-being.
Through this guided reflection process, participants will identify opportunities for change and start creating a plan to attaining better balance in their lives.

Explore the concept of ambiguous loss, develop coping strategies and gain understanding of feelings of grief when caring for a person with dementia.

For care partners of individuals living with dementia in mid-to-late stages.

  • Describe the concept of Ambiguous Loss
  • Recognize the uniqueness and complexity of Ambiguous Loss
  • Explore concepts for learning to live with Ambiguous Loss
  • Develop an understanding of supportive services in the community

This workshop is to help care partners identify their sources of stress and develop coping strategies. The focus of the session will be on exploring the concept of resilience and ways to build care partner resilience.
 
Learning Objectives:
  • Explore the different types of stress care partners may experience and develop coping strategies to deal with the stress
  • Increase awareness of the importance of self-care for the care partner
  • Develop an understanding of supportive services in the community and where to seek those services
  • Describe the concept of resilience and why it is important for care partners

The program is flexible and will be catered to the interests and needs of the group participants. Let’s come together, break bread, have a laugh and be creative together.

Fridays from February 21st – March 28th, 2025 (6-week program) from 1:30-2:30pm at Elms Pool located at 45 Golfdown Dr, Etobicoke, ON M9W 2H8

Aquafit is not swimming, it is a way to exercise in the water that can accommodate all ages, fitness levels, health considerations and abilities. It welcomes participants to choose their own intensity level, speed and range of motion. The principles of water protect joints, and build strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. Aquafit not only benefits the body, it stimulates the mind and rejuvenates the spirit.

Catherine Lyons-Bozzo is a WaterART Certified Master Trainer, certified in Shallow/Deep, Boot Camp, Mind/Body, Parent/Tot, Arthritic, Common Movement Disorders, Running, Master Trainer, Senior H20 and Senior Land. She has many aquatic and sport certifications including being a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Swim Team Coach, Figure Skating Coach and Gymnastics Coach. Over the past number of years, Catherine has reinvented her career and has embarked on an Aquafit Journey with the City of Toronto, Kimel Brain & Health Centre and private entities. Her enthusiasm, creativity and cumulative experience are evidenced in the fun and diverse programs she delivers.

This program is for people living with mild to moderate dementia and/or cognitive impairments and their care partners, who both have comfortability in the water.
