Join us for an Art Therapy Picnic in the Park, a relaxed and engaging summer gathering for people living with mild to moderate dementia and their care partners. Through therapeutic art activities inspired by the season, participants will have the opportunity to explore creativity, self-expression, connection, and wellbeing in a welcoming outdoor setting.

The program includes a picnic lunch, all art supplies, and guided activities designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all abilities. No artistic experience is necessary – just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to explore. Come enjoy fresh air, good company, and a meaningful afternoon of art and connection.

Facilitated by Tamiko Potts, a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and student art psychotherapist studying at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy who believes creativity can help people connect, reflect, and find joy in everyday moments. Drawing from their background in visual arts, storytelling and community engagement, they create inclusive and welcoming spaces. Their approach is gentle, collaborative, and rooted in curiosity, cultural humility and compassion incorporating artmaking, sensory experiences, and mindfulness alongside creative exploration.

Facilitated by student art psychotherapist Tamiko Potts, these one-to-one sessions are for people living with mild to moderate dementia alone or with a care partner. These sessions use the creative process to support self-expression, emotional wellbeing, identity, and connection. Through art-making and guided reflection, participants are invited to explore memories, strengths, relationships, emotions, and meaningful life experiences in a way that is accessible and adaptable to changing cognitive abilities. Sessions are individualized and may incorporate visual art, sensory experiences, mindfulness, reminiscence, and nature-based approaches. No artistic experience is necessary.

4 Weeks, Mondays September 14th – October 15th from 1:30 – 3:00 PM at AST located at 20 Eglinton Ave West, 16th floor.

This art therapy program is for people living with mild to moderate dementia and their care partners. Through artmaking, sensory exploration, and mindfulness-inspired activities, participants will be invited to connect with creativity, self-expression, and one another in a relaxed and supportive environment. Together we will explore fall-themed experiences through collage, nature-based artmaking and mindfulness practices. Participants will be invited to reflect on themes of harvest, gratitude, comfort, connection, and seasonal change through creative expression. No artistic experience is necessary – just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to explore.

The Community Connections Café is a welcoming space where people with memory loss or Dementia, and their care partners, can come to connect with others and support their brain health while socializing. This is an opportunity to enjoy simple refreshments and make new friends in a Dementia Friendly Community Space.

The Community Connections Cafe focuses on social wellness for people with memory loss or Dementia, and their care partners. The program is informal with the intended atmosphere of a local coffee shop where participants can chat over a beverage, do something creative, or play a game.

 

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:30pm to 4:30pm In-person at our AST Head Office
Location: 20 Eglinton Ave West, 16th Floor, Toronto

Mondays, August 17th – September 28th from 1:30-3PM at Brentwood Library located at 36 Brentwood Rd N, Etobicoke, M8X 2B5. 

Join us for an in-person 6-part creative movement series and enjoy activating your body in a fun and inclusive space. Each week we will breathe, stretch and find our flow with Lisa Brodie, a Certified Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist. Together we will use the traditional tools of breath, gentle movement and meditation to quiet the mind, soften the body, and access a deeper sense of peace.  

This series is appropriate for learners at all levels and provides opportunities for each participant to learn at their own pace and in their own style, from a seated or standing position.

Active Living Programming offers quality social recreation programs designed for individuals living with dementia, or together with their care partners in the community. No prior experience is necessary -just a willingness to have fun and express yourself!

The focus of the session will be on providing an overview of MCI and the differences between normal aging, MCI and dementia.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of MCI and the differences between normal aging, MCI and dementia
  • Explore how MCI impacts individuals and families
  • Learn how to optimize cognitive health
  • Develop an understanding of supportive services in the community

 

This workshop is for people living with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and/or care partners of people living with MCI.
